A four-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries after an adult skier fell on her during a cross-country skiing outing north of Gatineau, Quebec. Authorities confirmed the death on Monday.
Details of the Incident
The accident took place on February 22 at Nakkertok, a private cross-country ski club in Val-des-Monts favored by local families. The child was riding in a sled pulled by an adult descending a hill when the fall occurred, according to MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police.
Emergency Response and Medical Care
Police arrived to find paramedics and firefighters performing CPR on the girl. She was transported to CHEO, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, for treatment but did not survive.
Ontario’s coroner has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
Recent Similar Tragedy
This loss follows a similar incident about two weeks earlier, when a 13-year-old girl died at a nearby downhill ski resort. Her clothing became caught in a chairlift, leading to fatal injuries.
