A groundbreaking two-day summit focused on women’s rights and empowerment is set to begin at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on January 29. The ‘Shakti Samvaad’ initiative brings together women’s commissions from across India to strengthen institutional coordination and enhance support systems for women nationwide.

Building Stronger Networks for Women’s Rights

This third national-level gathering marks a significant milestone in collaborative efforts between state and national women’s commissions. Following successful previous editions in Ayodhya and Mumbai, the event demonstrates a continued commitment to advancing women’s welfare through cooperative federalism.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will inaugurate the event, which features representatives from women’s commissions across all Indian states. The ceremony will include the launch of ‘Safarnama,’ a collection of personal accounts from commission staff members, and an awards ceremony for winners of the ‘Stay Safe Online’ poster competition.

Key Focus Areas and Objectives

The two-day conference will address several critical areas:

  • Enhancing complaint handling and investigation procedures
  • Upgrading management information systems and helpline operations
  • Evaluating state-specific legislation
  • Supporting the ‘Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat’ initiative against child marriage
  • Developing strategies for district-level public hearings

Leadership Perspective

Vijaya Rahatkar, chairperson of the National Commission for Women, emphasized the significance of the gathering: “This summit represents our shared commitment to women’s empowerment. When we unite our efforts, we can provide faster, more effective solutions and ensure our services reach every woman in need.”

Expected Outcomes

The summit aims to produce concrete action plans and strengthen institutional partnerships, ultimately enhancing the protection of women’s rights and dignity across India. Participants will share innovative practices and develop collaborative strategies for more effective implementation of women-centric programs and policies.
