Badger Evacuation Expands as Exploits River Flood Risk Grows

Published on

In central Newfoundland’s Badger community, dozens of homes faced mandatory evacuation orders on Thursday due to surging waters in the Exploits River. While some residents have already left, others remain on high alert, monitoring the rapidly rising levels that threaten further areas.

Details of the Evacuation Order

The provincial authorities announced the expanded evacuation late Thursday, targeting specific neighborhoods to ensure public safety. All properties along the following streets must be vacated immediately: Beothuk Street, Earle Street, Kinsman Drive, Main Street, Park Street, River Road, and Sheppard Street.

Additionally, all even-numbered addresses on the north side of Badger Drive are included in the order. On Maple Street, civic numbers from 34 to 76 and from 33 to 99 are also required to evacuate.

Registration and Support for Evacuees

Those displaced are directed to register at the Badger Community Centre located at 19 Maple Street. This step helps coordinate assistance and track the well-being of affected individuals amid the ongoing flood threat.

Provincial Emergency Response

The province’s emergency operations centre has escalated to Level 2 activation, signaling full involvement from emergency management partners. Officials are closely tracking the situation, with water levels continuing to climb and posing significant risks to low-lying areas.

Residents can stay informed through updates posted on the Community of Badger’s official Facebook page, where the latest developments and safety advisories are shared in real time.
