Spotify’s 2026 Best New Artist Party Ushers in Music’s Future

Published on

Spotify’s Best New Artist Party in 2026 delivered an electrifying preview of music’s next wave, drawing industry insiders and fans alike just days before the Grammys. Held at The Lot at Formosa, the event celebrated emerging talents and highlighted the platform’s role in spotlighting rising stars.

Building Momentum for Grammys Week

The gathering, a key fixture since 2017, brought together nominees and innovators who are reshaping the music landscape. Dustee Jenkins, Spotify’s chief public affairs officer, emphasized the event’s significance during a discussion. “We’ve been watching these artists for a long time,” she stated. “They’re talented and on the cusp of global recognition—this night celebrates that breakthrough.”

The venue buzzed with energy as DJs Alex Chapman and Zoe Gitter kicked things off, blending Y2K classics with current Spotify chart leaders. Attendees mingled amid food trucks, including a popular churro stand, where artists like Benson Boone chatted casually with friends.

Standout Performances from Rising Stars

For the first time, all Best New Artist nominees—Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas, The Marías, Lola Young, Olivia Dean, KATSEYE, and Alex Warren—shared the stage. The performances created an intimate yet intense atmosphere, with the crowd pressing closer as the night unfolded.

Leon Thomas and Lola Young’s Triumphant Sets

Leon Thomas opened with confident energy, delivering layered R&B tracks from his latest album. The momentum built with Lola Young’s return to the stage, her first major show since collapsing during a performance in New York last September. “This is a special moment for me,” she shared between songs. “I’m feeling better, so thank you to everybody here and to everyone who makes performing feel like this.” Choosing deeper tracks like “Dealer” and “Post Sex Clarity” over her hit “Messy,” her set resonated deeply, prompting cheers of excitement from the audience.

Dreamy Vibes and Pop Energy

The Marías followed with enchanting dream pop, performing “Back to Me,” “Nobody New,” and “No One Noticed.” Frontwoman María Zardoya’s vocals captivated everyone, even pausing the waitstaff mid-task to listen. Alex Warren brought playfulness to his set, teasing KJ Apa in the crowd before launching into his chart-topper “Ordinary,” with his wife Kouvr Annon cheering from the side.

KATSEYE energized the room with precise choreography on “Gabriela,” “M.I.A,” and “Gnarly,” drawing family members like Lara Raj’s relatives to the front row. Sombr delivered tracks from his debut album, including the summer standout “Undressed,” fulfilling an earlier prediction of his nomination.

Addison Rae and Olivia Dean Close Strong

Addison Rae commanded attention in a white cinched blazer and shorts, stripping layers between songs like “In the Rain,” “High Fashion,” and “Diet Pepsi.” Though she skipped “Headphones On,” her confident delivery solidified her pop diva status. Spotify’s AI DJ X introduced most acts, but Rae took the mic herself for a giggly backstage address.

The night peaked with Olivia Dean’s soulful performance of “Man I Need,” “So Easy (To Fall in Love),” and “Nice to Each Other.” Her smooth vocals unified the crowd in harmonious sing-alongs, creating a synchronized sway across the venue.

Returning after a 2025 hiatus due to Los Angeles wildfires, the party reignited excitement for music’s premier weekend, proving these artists are ready to dominate the industry.
