Today Show Host’s Mother Disappears Under Suspicious Circumstances
Law enforcement officials are investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84-year-old mother of Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie, after she vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home under suspicious circumstances. Authorities confirmed the matriarch was last seen by family members at approximately 9:45 p.m. on February 1.
Authorities Suspect Foul Play
Investigators believe Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her Catalina Foothills residence between 10 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Sheriff Nanos publicly stated that evidence suggests a crime occurred, potentially involving kidnapping or abduction.
“At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home under suspicious circumstances,” a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson stated. Concerns for Nancy’s safety have intensified due to her mobility limitations and need for daily medication.
Today Show Colleagues Rally Support
Several of Savannah Guthrie’s Today Show colleagues shared urgent appeals for information through social media platforms. Craig Melvin posted a photograph of Guthrie with her mother alongside the sheriff department’s contact information, writing: “Our thoughts are with Savannah and her family. Anyone with information should contact investigators.”
Jenna Bush Hager shared official contact details and read Guthrie’s personal statement on air: “We remain focused on our mother’s safe return and thank law enforcement for their efforts. Please contact authorities with any information.”
Al Roker expressed support through social media, stating: “We are praying for Savannah’s family and Nancy’s swift return.” Dylan Dreyer encouraged followers: “Please join me in praying for Savannah’s mother’s safe recovery,” while sharing investigation contact information.
Public Urged to Assist Investigation
During Monday’s broadcast, Sheinelle Jones emphasized community involvement in the search efforts: “This is when we’re at our best as a community – if you’ve seen anything, no matter how insignificant it seems, please contact investigators immediately.”
Former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb shared symbolic images of hope alongside photos of Guthrie and her mother, captioning her post with prayer emojis and the plea: “If you know anything… please help.”
Authorities continue to request public assistance through the Pima County Sheriff’s Department tip line at (520) 351-4900. The investigation remains active with multiple law enforcement agencies involved.
