Autistic Brothers’ Tragic Story Revealed Before Alleged Family Murder-Suicide

Family Tragedy Unfolds in Perth Suburb

A teacher familiar with two autistic teenage brothers who died in a suspected double murder-suicide has shared poignant details about their lives and educational challenges. Jarrod Clune, 50, Maiwenna ‘Mai’ Goasdoue, 49, and their sons Leon, 16, and Otis, 14, were discovered deceased in their Mosman Park residence last Friday morning.

Discovery and Initial Response

A care worker alerted authorities after arriving for a scheduled visit and finding a note advising against entry while instructing to contact emergency services. Upon entering the property, officers discovered all family members deceased alongside their two dogs and cat.

Educator Shares Insights on Brothers’ Struggles

An educator who taught one of the boys described them as “kind-hearted children who required understanding,” adding that Leon had been approaching a significant educational milestone. “Next year would have marked Leon’s graduation – demonstrating remarkable progress,” the teacher stated anonymously.

Educational Challenges Revealed

Contrary to initial reports, the educator clarified neither brother attended Christ Church Grammar School at the time of their deaths. Otis had been expelled approximately two years prior following a spitting incident, with sources confirming school staff had reportedly referred to him as a “monster” during discussions with his mother. Leon’s departure timeline from the institution remains unclear, though there’s no indication of expulsion.

Reports suggest the family faced significant challenges finding appropriate educational placements for both boys, who were subsequently enrolled in a specialized school better equipped to support their needs. Otis was nonverbal, adding complexity to his educational requirements.

Parental Exhaustion and Support Efforts

The educator described the parents as loving but severely sleep-deprived, noting the children’s disrupted sleep patterns common in severe autism cases. “The boys rarely slept at night and often napped at school,” the teacher explained.

Despite these challenges, both children demonstrated affection for their pets and found comfort in Disney films. “Leon particularly loved Toy Story and the character Woody, while Otis cherished Finding Nemo, often bringing stuffed characters to school for sensory support,” the educator recalled.

Support System Shortcomings

Community members expressed concerns that support systems had failed the family, with social media tributes highlighting alleged deficiencies in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Reports indicate one child recently experienced funding reductions through the program.

Friends described the parents as devoted advocates who increasingly felt isolated by systemic shortcomings. “They fought tirelessly against a system not designed to assist them,” one anonymous associate stated. “Chronic sleep deprivation and lack of support during school holidays likely contributed to their desperate decision.”

Investigation Developments

Authorities discovered a second note outlining financial arrangements and suggesting a joint parental decision regarding the family’s fate. While official causes of death remain unconfirmed, investigators found no evidence of violent struggle or weapon involvement.

Forensic analysis continues following aerial images showing potential bloodstains near the property’s rear area. Western Australia Police declined to comment on specifics, stating the investigation remains ongoing.

Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo confirmed no prior family violence reports associated with the household, describing the incident as “an incredibly tragic situation” for all involved.
