Chelsea secured their spot in the FA Cup fifth round with a commanding 4-0 victory over Hull City on Saturday evening. The Blues dominated as clear favorites, fielding a strong lineup featuring Reece James, Moises Caicedo, and Pedro Neto.
Pedro Neto’s Hat-Trick Seals Dominant Win
Pedro Neto stole the spotlight, netting a brilliant hat-trick in his new role as a number 10. The 25-year-old opened the scoring five minutes before halftime, then added two more in the second half around Estevao’s goal. Chelsea controlled the match from start to finish at the MKM Stadium.
Pre-Match Video Sparks Outrage Over Player Behavior
Off the pitch, Chelsea players faced backlash after a video captured them arriving at the stadium. As they headed to the dressing room, they passed young Hull supporters serving as mascots without acknowledging the children.
Fans expressed disappointment online. One supporter remarked, “Tragic, can’t even look at them and smile. Majority of footballers have become so far detached from real life and people. It’s a joke.” Another added, “Not one gave the kids five seconds of their time… embarrassing.” A third noted, “That’s terrible. How long would it take to say hello and hi five the kids, it would make their day and fans for life.”
Even Chelsea fans criticized the incident. One said, “As a Chelsea fan when I first seen this yesterday morning my first thought was how bad it was that not one of them took any notice of them kids. Such a shame and such a bad look, they need to do better that for sure.” Another stated, “As a Chelsea fan, it’s disgusting, them poor children watching Premier League superstars a metre from them, and not even getting a high five. Typical of modern day footballers…”
Arrests for Discriminatory Chanting During Match
Tensions rose inside the stadium, where authorities made multiple arrests. A warning appeared on screens and over the PA system urging fans to stop discriminatory chanting, with action taken in the second half.
Hull manager Liam Rosenior commented, “Without knowing what has happened, and I don’t know, any discriminatory language in any form about anything is unacceptable. I hope it gets dealt with. The fourth official mentioned something to me but I was so focused on the game. I honestly don’t know what’s happened there.”
Hull head coach Sergej Jakirovic added, “I didn’t hear that [the chanting] and this is not the place for this for sure, in the stadium and also in public as well. This is not good, for sure. The stadium is not the place for that and this is the reason why they are arrested.”
Chelsea awaits their fifth-round opponents, with the draw scheduled for Monday evening.
