Toronto police launch an investigation following gunfire at a downtown restaurant on Queen Street West late Monday afternoon. Officers arrived shortly after 4:45 p.m. near the Queen Street West and Portland Street intersection after reports of shots fired.
Scene of the Latest Incident
Investigators discovered evidence of gunfire at 502 Queen St. W., home to the Asian fusion restaurant Miss Ivy. A glass door showed signs of shattering from bullets, and three distinct gunshot holes pierced another window. No injuries occurred, and suspects reportedly escaped in a dark-colored vehicle. Police have no suspect descriptions at this time.
Repeat Violence in the Neighborhood
This marks the second shooting at the same location within nine days, both occurring in broad daylight with no victims injured. Cameras line the stretch of Queen Street near Portland, east of Bathurst. Authorities temporarily closed Queen Street in both directions between Portland and Denison Avenue for the probe, but it has since reopened.
Local Residents React
Adrian Ravinsky, a nearby resident and local business owner, described the events as alarming. “This is the second time it’s happened in a week, so it’s a little scary,” he said. Ravinsky noted similarities between the incidents, including bullet casings found in the same spot and more extensive window damage this time. He witnessed the aftermath both days while walking his dog.
Another local woman expressed concern: “I’m just hoping the business owners are okay and people are not targeting people in such a nice neighbourhood.”
A worker in the area called the situation unnerving: “I’m scared for like other people, some of my co-workers were scared to go after that.” Another resident added, “Two shootings in one week is not normal but some people not understanding what happening around the street.”
Ongoing Probe
The investigation continues. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Toronto police or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
