Bad Bunny Stars in ‘Porto Rico’ Film After Super Bowl Show

Published on

Bad Bunny shifts gears into acting with a lead role in the historical drama Porto Rico, set in his home country of Puerto Rico, right after his standout Super Bowl LX halftime performance earlier this month.

Film Details and Stellar Cast

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican superstar, whose real name is Benito Ocasio, teams up with Javier Bardem, Edward Norton, and Viggo Mortensen in the project. Rapper Residente, born René Pérez Joglar, directs the film in his debut behind the camera. Five-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu serves as executive producer.

Director and Star Insights

Residente shares his passion for the story: “I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy. This film is a reaffirmation of who we are – told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”

Edward Norton highlights the film’s appeal: “This film sits in a tradition of films we deeply love, from The Godfather to Gangs of New York, that both thrill us with visceral drama and iconic characters and eras while also forcing us to face up to the shadow story under the American narrative of idealism.”

He adds about Residente: “Everybody knows what a poet of language and rhythm René is. Now they’re going to see what a visual visionary he is as well. And bringing him and Bad Bunny together to tell the true story of Puerto Rico’s roots is going to be like a flame finding the stick of dynamite that’s been waiting for it.”

Bad Bunny’s Growing Acting Resume

Acting marks familiar territory for Ocasio. He debuted in 2021 with F9 and Narcos: Mexico. In 2022, he appeared in Bullet Train, followed by a role alongside Gael García Bernal in 2023’s Cassandro. Last year, he starred in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing.

His TV credits include hosting Saturday Night Live for the season 51 premiere in October.

WWE Match Talk with Logan Paul

Amid the buzz, Logan Paul pitches a WWE clash with Bad Bunny, calling it “the biggest wrestling match of all time.” Bad Bunny previously faced Damian Priest in WWE in 2021.

Paul reveals strategy behind his pre-Super Bowl comments dismissing the halftime show, which drew boos at Levi’s Stadium: “Bad Bunny is a world-renowned superstar. He also can be a WWE superstar when he wants. He’s a good wrestler – he can f***ing wrestle! There have been talks about maybe us wrestling… I would love to do it.”
