David Momoh, a 31-year-old e-commerce manager and contestant on Married At First Sight 2026, has disclosed the surprising reason he abandoned his ambitions to become a rap star.
Viewer Backlash and Rap Past
Viewers criticized Momoh for joining the show solely to gain fame and revive his music career. However, the Nigerian-born participant maintains that his rap pursuits ended long ago, despite evidence lingering on his social media.
His Instagram features numerous videos of him rapping in a thick American accent about money, fame, and women, complete with smooth rhymes. The page also showcases posed photos next to luxury sports cars, by swimming pools, and flexing muscles in a style reminiscent of rap album covers. With 12,700 followers, fans often praise his flow and confidence in the comments.
A Promising Start That Faded
Momoh once signed with an internationally renowned record label and performed at the 2023 Good Life Festival in Brisbane alongside R&B artist DJ Horizon, just as his career gained momentum.
Yet, he stepped away from it all. “That makes me laugh. People think I’m trying to push my rap career, but I actually left that behind a long time ago,” Momoh stated.
The music industry’s commercial demands clashed with his creative vision, leading to disillusionment. “If you’re not Drake or Central Cee, the reality is it’s tough,” he admitted. “I’m 30. I’m kind of over that. I’ve released a couple of house tracks, but I’m not chasing fame. I’m very happy in my web development career.”
From Music to True Self
Behind the glamorous visuals lay a grueling process that diminished his passion. “Music’s just in my soul,” Momoh explained. “I’ve played heavy metal, rap, now house. It’s not about fame for me.”
He joined Married At First Sight for an authentic life experience, not publicity. “Public perception can go either way,” he noted. “I could be a villain to some, a hero to others. All I care about is staying true to myself.”
Momoh also sought to challenge perceptions that paint him as a “womanizing party boy,” which deter potential partners. Now, with his wife Alissa Fay, he prioritizes love over hip-hop stardom, embracing a stable career and personal growth.
