Michael Carrick emphasizes that his Manchester United squad remains level-headed following their impressive early success under his leadership. The team secured four straight victories after Carrick took over as head coach last month, replacing Ruben Amorim.
Reflecting on the West Ham Draw
A hard-fought draw against West Ham on February 10 ended United’s winning streak, but Carrick views it as a valuable point rather than a setback. He highlighted the team’s control and positive elements during the match.
“We’ve got to be a bit balanced in terms of not getting carried away before that game in terms of winning games, and certainly not getting carried away if we don’t come away with the three points,” Carrick stated ahead of Monday’s clash with Everton.
Carrick noted the Premier League’s competitiveness, pointing out solid performances across the board. “A lot of the performance in terms of the control and how we went about the game was there, there were a lot of good things in the game,” he added. The match opened up late as United pushed for a winner, but they stayed dangerous and netted a late goal, which he sees as a key positive.
Previewing the Everton Challenge
Manchester United hold fourth place in the Premier League standings as they prepare to face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees, managed by David Moyes—a former United boss—are known for their resilience.
“David’s teams are hard to play against, he’s such a good manager, and with the experience he’s got, he knows what it takes to have success in this league,” Carrick said. He acknowledged the venue’s intimidating atmosphere, despite the new stadium. “Historically it’s always been tough. The supporters and the atmosphere they create, it’s always been one of the toughest ones.”
Carrick stressed the need to build on their strong foundation and team spirit. United could also benefit from midfielder Mason Mount’s potential return; he has been sidelined since the mid-January Manchester derby but is nearing fitness.
