Toronto and surrounding Greater Toronto Area regions now face a freezing drizzle advisory, with icy conditions expected this evening.
Advisory Details
Environment Canada warns that freezing drizzle across eastern parts of the Golden Horseshoe could persist into the evening, creating hazardous icy surfaces on roads, walkways, and other areas. These slick spots may be hard to spot, raising the risk of slips, falls, and injuries.
The advisory covers York Region and portions of Durham Region alongside Toronto.
Road Closures and Collisions
Slippery roads in Pickering have triggered multiple crashes and vehicles off the road on Highway 7 east of Whites Road, according to Ontario Provincial Police. No injuries occurred, but the highway remains closed.
In Whitchurch-Stouffville, all northbound lanes of Highway 404 at Bloomington Road are shut due to similar collisions from poor driving conditions. Ontario Provincial Police urge drivers to avoid the area unless essential, anticipating delays and extended closures.
Upcoming Weather
Sunday brings periods of snow to Toronto with a daytime high of 1 C, though morning wind chill makes it feel like -6 C. Monday stays cloudy with a 40 percent chance of flurries and a high of -3 C.
