Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Head to Jordan for Gaza Aid Mission

Published on

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, continue their global philanthropy with a two-day visit to Jordan. They join World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to spotlight humanitarian health efforts amid conflicts.

Packed Itinerary in Jordan

The couple arrives for a busy schedule on Wednesday and Thursday. Key stops include World Central Kitchen, which delivers food and aid into Gaza. They also visit Questscope programs at the Za’atari Refugee Camp, a refuge for displaced Syrians. The itinerary features initiatives funded by the Sussexes, supporting medical evacuations for children impacted by the Gaza conflict.

Building on Prior Collaboration

This trip follows Prince Harry’s joint appearance with Dr. Tedros at Imperial College London’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies last September. Harry’s commitment stems from his military service and his late mother Princess Diana’s advocacy with the British Red Cross and HALO Trust.

Dr. Tedros shared on X: “It was a great pleasure to meet with the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, at @imperialcollege today. I have deep admiration for the Duke’s humanitarian spirit to make a difference in the world, especially to alleviate the suffering of people living in conflict settings. I am particularly grateful for the commitment he and his Archewell Foundation have shown towards @WHO ’s work to evacuate patients from #Gaza needing life-saving care outside of the war-ravaged Strip.”

Royal Ties to Jordan

While no public record shows Prince Harry visiting Jordan previously, his brother Prince William toured the Middle East there in 2018. During that trip, William noted his wife Catherine’s childhood connection, stating in a speech: “My wife Catherine is very sorry she cannot be here with me so soon after the birth of our son Louis, but her family remembers very fondly the almost three years she spent here as a child when her father worked for British Airways in Amman.”

Catherine attended nursery in Jordan, learning in English and Arabic, and reciting a Quran verse after morning songs.
