Swansea City salvaged a thrilling 1-1 draw against Preston in the Championship thanks to Liam Cullen’s stoppage-time equalizer, capping an electric evening highlighted by co-owner Snoop Dogg’s first live match attendance at Swansea.com Stadium.
Fans Create Carnival Atmosphere
Supporters erupted in excitement before kickoff, waving white towels emblazoned with Snoop Dogg’s face and the phrase ‘make some noise.’ Chants filled the air as the rap icon, dressed head-to-toe in Swansea merchandise including a shirt, trousers, jacket, and sunglasses, arrived carrying a speaker. He posed for photos with fans and even joined a casual kickabout.
The club drew a record crowd to the stadium, opened in 2005, after encouraging early arrivals for a pre-match towel twirl—a nod to American sports traditions. Snoop Dogg received a standing ovation during a seven-minute lap of honor around the pitch.
Match Delivers Late Drama
Preston struck first in the 26th minute through Daniel Jebbison, threatening to dampen the festivities. However, Cullen’s 95th-minute strike secured a point, sending the stadium into rapture.
Snoop Dogg, who had shifted to the club lounge, watched the finale on television screens. Footage captured his celebration, exclaiming, ‘Way to go, buddy,’ while applauding the goal.
Post-Match Banter and Ownership Pride
Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom quipped afterward that his team remained unfazed by the celebrity presence, noting, ‘The only thing I noticed different was the smell of weed in the tunnel before the game!’
The 54-year-old rapper became a minority shareholder last July, joining a board that includes TV host Martha Stewart and Croatia’s Luka Modric. Fresh from his ‘Coach Snoop’ duties with Team USA at the Winter Olympics, plus a private gig in Llansamlet and a training ground visit, Snoop Dogg expressed pride in the investment, calling Swansea ‘an underdog that bites back, just like me.’
