Ottawa’s professional women’s soccer team has introduced a new majority ownership group. The Arcadia MapleLeaf Soccer group takes the lead, with Nick Sakellariadis serving as chair.

Experienced Leadership at the Helm

Sakellariadis, a Harvard graduate in law and business, brings extensive experience from a long career in investment banking. He owned the Dayton Dragons, affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in Ohio, for over a decade. The Dragons maintained a sellout streak throughout most of this century. His group sold the team to Diamond Baseball Holdings about a year ago, and Sakellariadis continues as co-executive chair.

The group also includes Michael Savit, a former Dragons owner, and Ellen Shumway, who offers expertise in finance and consulting.

Commitment to Community and Growth

The ownership group pledges to develop Ottawa Rapid FC into a fan-focused, family-friendly community hub. It aims to foster dynamic role models, bolster Ottawa’s prominence in Canada’s expanding women’s soccer landscape, and enhance pathways from youth programs to professional levels, according to a team statement.

Investment and Team Continuity

Details on the investment amount remain undisclosed. Current owners retain their stakes and plan to increase their contributions to the club.

Recent Performance and Upcoming Season

In the Northern Super League’s inaugural season, Ottawa Rapid FC reached the semifinals. DB Pridham, now with Canada’s national team, earned player of the year honors, while Jyllissa Harris claimed defender of the year.

The team kicks off its 2026 campaign in Halifax on April 25, followed by a home opener on May 2.
