Legendary racehorse Envoi Allen collapsed and died while walking back to the stables after competing in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. The 12-year-old three-time Festival winner received immediate care from racecourse veterinarians, but they could not save him. This contest represented his planned final race before retirement, casting a somber note over the event.

Gold Cup Outcome

Willie Mullins’ Gaelic Warrior secured a decisive victory in the Gold Cup. Star jockey Paul Townend rode the winner after two-time champion Galopin Des Champs was withdrawn from the race. Envoi Allen competed valiantly in his last outing, though the demanding event ultimately proved overwhelming.

Illustrious Eight-Year Career

Envoi Allen built an exceptional record over eight years. Initially trained by Gordon Elliott, the gelding claimed his first Grade 1 win in the 2019 Champion Bumper. He added two more Grade 1 triumphs later that year.

In March 2020, he dominated the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle—now known as the Turners Novices’ Chase—winning by 4¼ lengths with two-time Grand National winner Davy Russell in the saddle.

Returning to Cheltenham in 2021 as the 4-9 favorite, he unfortunately fell, ending his remarkable streak of 11 consecutive wins under rules. One punter, with Envoi Allen as the last horse in his accumulator, partially cashed out for £250,000 from a £5 stake.

After switching to trainer Henry de Bromhead, Envoi Allen returned to the Cheltenham winners’ enclosure in 2023. He triumphed in the Ryanair Chase aboard revolutionary jockey Rachael Blackmore, outpacing fellow star Shishkin.

The ten-time Grade 1 winner finished second to Dan Skelton’s Protektorat in the 2024 Ryanair and placed third in the 2025 edition. He also secured a record third Down Royal Champion Chase in November 2025, following victories in 2022 and 2024.
