Olympic champion Adam Peaty encountered a challenging return to competitive swimming following his recent marriage. The 31-year-old three-time Olympic gold medalist placed fourth in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet on Saturday night.
Race Results and Performance
Peaty led at the 50-meter turn with a swift 28.06 seconds but slowed on the final stretch, finishing with a time of 1:00.74. Emerging talent Filip Nowacki, a 19-year-old from Millfield, claimed victory in 1:00.26. Gregory Butler took second place at 1:00.37, followed by teenager Max Morgan in third at 1:00.54.
This performance marks a significant gap from Peaty’s world record of 56.88 seconds, set at his peak in South Korea in 2019.
Personal Milestones and Event Context
The event represents Peaty’s first major long-course competition since the Paris 2024 Olympics and his wedding to Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, at Bath Abbey in December. The couple met in 2021 through Holly’s sister Tilly, who competed alongside Peaty on Strictly Come Dancing. They announced their engagement in September 2024, shortly after the Olympics, before tying the knot over a year later.
The high-profile ceremony drew guests like former England captain David Beckham but was overshadowed by an ongoing family dispute involving Peaty’s mother.
Future Competitions and Training
A two-time Olympic breaststroke champion, Peaty targets two key events this summer: the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July and the European Championships in Paris soon after. He prepared for the recent meet with a training camp on Australia’s Gold Coast alongside longtime coach Mel Marshall last month.
