Arsenal continues its push for silverware amid intense on-pitch battles and off-field transfer rumors. The Gunners recently faced Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last-16 and now prepare for a pivotal Carabao Cup final against Manchester City this Sunday. This match offers Mikel Arteta his first trophy opportunity since the 2020 FA Cup triumph in his debut season.
Arsenal’s momentum builds, positioning them as frontrunners for the Premier League title. They extended their lead over Manchester City to nine points following a 2-0 victory against Everton.
£59m Target Set to Remain at PSG
Arsenal appears likely to miss out on a key summer transfer target. Recent links connected the club to Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined from Napoli for £59 million in January 2025. The 25-year-old Georgian contributed to PSG’s Champions League and Ligue 1 successes that season, including eliminating Arsenal in Europe.
Kvaratskhelia’s dazzling dribbling and clinical finishing have drawn widespread attention. Arsenal views him as a solution for their urgent need on the left wing. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano states that Kvaratskhelia will stay at PSG. The French champions consider him essential and plan to reject all offers. Romano notes Arsenal’s admiration for the player but provides no indication of an impending bid.
Teenage Sensation Challenges Captain Odegaard
Rio Ferdinand predicts that 16-year-old academy product Max Dowman could soon displace captain Martin Odegaard from the starting lineup. Dowman impressed as a substitute against Everton, delivering an assist and scoring his first senior goal while playing on the wing—though he typically features centrally in youth setups, aligning with Odegaard’s attacking midfield role.
Odegaard has sat out the last five matches due to a knee injury. His form over the past two seasons has underwhelmed even before this setback. Ferdinand suggests Odegaard risks becoming a bench option upon recovery, potentially leading to a sale to accommodate the rising star.
On his podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former Manchester United defender remarked: “You know Odegaard might not get a game now. Seriously, your captain might be gone. You’ve got Dowman who can play his position, Eberechi Eze can play his position. Bukayo Saka can play his position and go in there and go central. It’s mad.”
When questioned on deploying Dowman during the title race, Ferdinand advised: “Just continue what he’s been doing this week. Dipping him in, just keep giving him 15 or 20 minutes. Just keep putting him in because there’s no substitute for that confidence and what that can do as an injection of energy into your team.”
