Rosenior Faces Fan Backlash for Defending Chelsea After PSG Rout

Chelsea endured a crushing 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, sparking fury among supporters. Initial optimism stemmed from Chelsea’s superior position in the league phase, but PSG dominated both legs, securing a 5-2 victory at Parc des Princes and a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge under Luis Enrique’s guidance.

Rosenior Addresses Fan Frustrations

Liam Rosenior, Chelsea’s manager, acknowledged supporter discontent following the loss. He stated: “We want to make sure we don’t go through many more nights like this. This is a fantastic football club where the fans want success instantly – that’s rightfully so for the size of the club.”

Rosenior continued: “I have to say, I understand because of the aggregate scoreline in the tie, why fans are frustrated. They want us to win; I completely get it and I understood that before I came in. I also want to make them happy and give them the nights they deserve. Not just me, but us as a group, as a team.”

“That was a really, really difficult one to take because of the manner in which we went out this evening,” he added.

Defending Player Effort Sparks Outrage

Rosenior defended his squad’s commitment, saying: “I want to thank the fans because they saw how hard the lads worked.” This remark drew sharp criticism from Chelsea fans, who highlighted underwhelming displays from three players described as embarrassing.

Social media erupted with backlash. One fan demanded: “Yup. Sack him. Sack Rosenior this instant.” Another questioned: “This CANNOT be a real quote.” Further reactions included: “Absolutely disgusting” and “Is he having a laugh?”

Growing Pressure on Rosenior

Rosenior’s strong start at Chelsea has faded amid a poor run, with four losses in the last six matches across all competitions. reports Swiss media prior to the clash noted internal concerns about his long-term leadership, with influential figures questioning his future beyond this season.

The Champions League exit intensifies scrutiny. Chelsea aims to rebound with a trip to Everton on Saturday, March 21.
