Ernesto Valverde recently announced that his third stint at Athletic Bilbao will conclude in May, sparking speculation that Andoni Iraola could step in as replacement for the 62-year-old.
Iraola Dismisses Athletic Bilbao Rumors
Iraola, current Bournemouth manager, quickly addressed the links during a recent interview. “No, it doesn’t have anything to do with me,” he stated. “Probably as a supporter because it is my club but no it doesn’t affect the situation.”
He emphasized his satisfaction at Bournemouth. “I’ve said it a lot of times I’m very happy here. I have a great relationship with the club and it’s true that we will have to take a decision according to this but it’s a situation I have had most of my years as manager. It is not new to me.”
Pundits Endorse Iraola for Manchester United
Football experts have voiced strong support for Iraola as a potential Manchester United manager. Jamie Redknapp praised his style, calling him “an elite manager” and highlighting Bournemouth’s high-energy play.
“I love the way that Bournemouth play and he has been an absolute revelation,” Redknapp said. “I think he could definitely do it. Bournemouth play with high energy and tempo that I think Manchester United would want.”
Joe Cole echoed the sentiment. “Yeah, why not? He’s a good manager,” Cole responded when asked about Iraola for the role. “He’s not going to struggle for options. I think to get Bournemouth in the positions they find themselves in, playing really good football and bringing in good players, that is a big bonus.”
Cole noted Bournemouth’s strong season performance. “I have watched them quite a bit this season, they are a good team. Finishing mid-table again for such a small club is a testament to him.”
