Luis Enrique Commits to PSG Amid Man Utd Pursuit

Luis Enrique plans to turn down Manchester United’s interest by signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. This development positions Michael Carrick as the leading candidate for the permanent role at Old Trafford.

Carrick took charge in January following Ruben Amorim’s exit. The former midfielder has delivered seven wins in 10 matches, with only one loss. Qualification for next season’s Champions League remains within reach under his leadership.

Manchester United considered several high-profile options, including Enrique, the ex-Barcelona and Spain coach renowned for guiding PSG to their inaugural European title last season. Despite his past interest in managing in England, sources in Paris confirm Enrique will extend his stay beyond his current 2027 expiry.

Other top targets have also committed elsewhere. Thomas Tuchel, previously interviewed by United, extended his deal with England through 2028. Carlo Ancelotti focuses on Brazil’s World Cup preparations with a new contract expected. Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann features prominently on shortlists but remains tied to his national role.

Carrick’s impact shines through player resurgences. Kobbie Mainoo rejoins the squad after Amorim’s exile, while Harry Maguire regains top form, earning an England recall for the first time since 2024.

Wes Brown Forecasts Man Utd’s Remaining Fixtures

With nine Premier League games left, Carrick steers United toward Champions League spots. Former United defender Wes Brown analyzes the run-in:

  • Aston Villa (H): Villa struggles with form; United secures a narrow win. Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa
  • Bournemouth (A): Tough away test, but United prevails. Bournemouth 0-2 Man Utd
  • Leeds (H): Fresh teams lead to a stalemate. Man Utd 1-1 Leeds
  • Chelsea (A): High-pressure clash; United edges it. Chelsea 2-3 Man Utd
  • Brentford (H): United grinds out victory. Man Utd 1-0 Brentford
  • Liverpool (H): Intense battle for top five ends level. Man Utd 2-2 Liverpool
  • Sunderland (A): United nicks points at Stadium of Light. Sunderland 0-1 Man Utd
  • Nottingham Forest (H): Final home win seals progress. Man Utd 2-0 Nottingham Forest
  • Brighton (A): Season closes in draw. Brighton 1-1 Man Utd

“We’ve got to finish strong, and I think [Carrick] should go right into the mix of the other candidates [for the permanent job] and let the process begin,” Brown, the former United captain, stated. “I’m sure it will do, and it’s going to be a thorough process. It’s going to be a big summer. We need bodies in to help the squad. We need improvement. It’s going to be a big recruitment in the management department, and I’m sure that the hierarchy will get it right.”
