Emma Raducanu, Britain’s top tennis player, has withdrawn from the upcoming Linz Open to focus on regaining full fitness. Her team confirmed the decision as she continues rehabilitation from post-viral symptoms stemming from an illness contracted in Romania in early February.
Recent Withdrawals and Recovery Focus
Raducanu also skipped the Miami Open and Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifier against Australia. She now targets a potential comeback at the WTA Tour event in Madrid later this month.
Last Match and Performance Insights
The 23-year-old, 2021 US Open champion, last competed in the third round of Indian Wells on March 8, where she fell 6-1, 6-1 to Amanda Anisimova. Reflecting on the match, Raducanu noted a lack of power impacted her play.
“I need to be aggressive against those players, but there’s still a long way to go,” she stated. “I must leverage my strengths and mix up my game more.”
Coaching Update
Since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January, Raducanu trains informally with Mark Petchey to rebuild her form.
