A frustrated customer has blasted Gordon Ramsay’s £15 lasagna at his Heathrow Airport restaurant, likening it to ‘dog sick’ and urging the celebrity chef to feel embarrassed.
The Disappointing Airport Meal
Musician Karl Phillips, 40, from Northampton, grabbed a bite at Plane Food Market in Heathrow Terminal 5 on March 16 while awaiting his flight to France for gigs. He ordered the lasagna alongside dirty loaded fries and a flat white, expecting quality from the renowned chef’s brand.
Instead, Phillips found the dish ‘dripping wet’ and appearing ‘microwaved from frozen.’ He described it as looking ‘like my dog had been sick in its water bowl,’ calling it disgusting despite the price.
‘It looked like it had been microwaved with added water and it was disgusting,’ Phillips said. ‘It wasn’t too expensive, but it was £15 and with the name [Gordon Ramsay] you’d expect a quality meal.’
Though he ate it due to the cost, Phillips noted it was ‘bland,’ lukewarm, and lacking seasoning or taste. He opted out of the 10% optional service charge on the bill without complaining on site.
Social Media Outrage and Vows Never to Return
Phillips shared a video of the meal on social media, amassing over 136,000 views and numerous comments. Viewers echoed his dismay, with one stating, ‘Frozen then microwaved lasagna for 15 quid is mental.’
Another remarked, ‘I would send this video to Gordon Ramsay. I bet he would be disgusted by them selling this.’ A third added, ‘That looked like gross slop. I wouldn’t even let my dog eat that.’
Phillips emphasized the brand’s standards: ‘Gordon Ramsay with his reputation and how he destroys anyone’s food that isn’t top scratch, you think he’d be embarrassed that this was served in one of his restaurants.’
The Plane Food Market promotes ‘bold, global tastes and seamless service’ for dine-in and takeaway at Terminal 5. Phillips vows never to visit another Gordon Ramsay outlet unless the multi-Michelin-starred chef offers a personal apology.
‘People just seem to be horrified that he would put his name to something like that,’ Phillips observed. ‘I’m sure it would be a lot better if he cooked it himself personally but this is still representing him as a brand.’
