Alison Hammond, the 51-year-old This Morning presenter, opens up about her relationship with 29-year-old David Putman, whom she has dated since December 2023. Known for her breakout on Big Brother in 2002, Hammond acknowledges public curiosity over their 22-year age difference but emphasizes her happiness.
Thoughts on the Age Gap
Hammond states, “I completely understand why people are interested when there’s a 22-year gap, but what I find interesting is that it’s not as interesting when it’s the man who is older. Why is that? I just want people to be happy for us. We are absolutely in love.”
Recent Public Moment
Weeks ago, Putman posted a photo of himself towering over Hammond as she hugged him closely. He captioned it, “Happy Birthday to my love,” tagging her account. The image shows the couple looking affectionate, with Hammond beaming and Putman wearing a flat cap and glasses.
Rejecting the ‘Toyboy’ Label
Hammond, mother to 21-year-old son Aiden from a previous relationship and a former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, dismisses the ‘toyboy’ label. She explains, “I can see how, on paper, you’d notice the age difference. But honestly, when we see the word ‘toyboy’ written about us, it bears no relation to what we have at all. Yes, I’m 22 years older than he is, but if you saw us together, you’d understand. People have said to me: ‘We get it now.’ He’s so mature and sensible, and I’m so not. And the things he says to me… they’re just so lovely.”
Engagement Speculation
Rumors of an engagement surfaced when Hammond appeared on This Morning wearing a pink diamond ring on her left ring finger. Live on air, she laughed, “Oh my god, apparently I am engaged?! Oh, I have put this on the wrong finger…. Let me swap it over to stop these rumours.”
She later hinted at openness to marriage, saying, “I wouldn’t say no. I might marry myself…” Hammond describes Putman as supportive: “He loves it. He just supports me. I don’t like to go into detail about him, because it’s my private life, and I want to respect his life as well. But you know I’m loved-up, everyone knows that!”
