A woman dangled precariously from a carnival ride in Ometepec, Mexico, before a quick-thinking man caught her mid-fall on April 2. The incident unfolded on ‘The Hammer’ ride at the local Easter fair, where footage captured the attraction swinging wildly out of control.
The Terrifying Sequence
The ride’s intense motion dislodged the woman from her seat as a young boy approached the ramp smiling. When the ride inverted, three onlookers rushed forward. She landed safely in one man’s arms inches from the ground and walked away shaken but unharmed.
Injuries Reported
Four other riders sustained injuries. Officials confirmed two were transported to a nearby medical center, while the remaining two received on-site evaluation. None faced life-threatening conditions.
Cause and Official Response
The Guerrero Internal Risk Management and Civil Protection Secretariat classified the event as a malfunction. Witnesses reported the mishap occurred as the operator secured passengers, when a child allegedly started the ride prematurely. The child and his parents fled, prompting an active police search.
Investigators from the secretariat confirmed all carnival rides possessed required permits and insurance. ‘Technical personnel are conducting the corresponding inspection to determine the causes of the event and ensure that necessary safety standards are met,’ the agency stated. Officials plan enhanced measures for future events to prevent recurrences.
