Josie Gibson, the 41-year-old TV presenter diagnosed with lipoedema, has transformed her figure through liposuction surgery costing £7,000, combined with a dedicated fitness and wellness routine. Despite regular workouts, she struggled to reduce the abnormal fat buildup, known as ‘lumps and excess weight,’ primarily in her legs, hips, buttocks, and arms.
Understanding Lipoedema
Lipoedema is a chronic condition causing symmetrical fat accumulation, almost exclusively in women and often hereditary. It differs from obesity and can impact daily life, physical health, and emotional well-being, affecting both sides of the body equally.
Surgical Interventions for Transformation
Frustrated by stalled progress from gym sessions, Josie opted for liposuction to jumpstart her changes. She recently underwent brachioplasty, or arm lift surgery, removing 45 percent of her arm tissue. Just one week post-procedure, she reports feeling ‘really good’ with no pain, though recovery limits activities like taking out the bins.
In video updates to followers, Josie explained: ‘I’ve just had about 20 messages asking how I am… I went in to see Paul Tulley last Friday for brachioplasty. There was nothing wrong with me, I’m really, really good.’ She added that lipoedema affects her arms too, making her feel ‘gross’ in vest tops, and she wants to enjoy summer confidently.
Fitness and Wellness Practices
Josie now walks on a new treadmill for steps, performs home circuits, takes collagen supplements and electrolytes, and undergoes lymphatic drainage to support her lymphatic system. She incorporates NAD+ and glutathione injectables for anti-aging and healing post-surgery.
She rented a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for three months, breathing 100 percent oxygen under pressure to boost blood oxygen, reduce swelling, and promote tissue repair. In an Instagram video, she appeared relaxed in the chamber, wearing an oxygen mask and a black bra, flashing a peace sign while showcasing her weight loss. She captioned it: ‘Some women treat themselves to designer handbags and some women treat themselves to hyperbaric oxygen chamber #alternativehealing.’
Josie also built a copper pyramid for meditation and energy healing.
Upcoming Strictly Come Dancing Challenge
Josie’s fitness journey aligns with reports of her joining Strictly Come Dancing as the first celebrity contestant this year. Advanced talks suggest producers value her ‘down-to-earth charm’ for the revamped BBC show starting in September.
