Arteta Confirms Eze Fit as Arsenal Target 12-Point Lead Over City

Published on

Arsenal returns to Premier League action this weekend, hosting Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. A victory could propel Mikel Arteta’s team 12 points clear of Manchester City, who hold two games in hand. This matchup offers the Gunners a prime chance to intensify pressure on Pep Guardiola’s squad before their Sunday clash with Chelsea.

Positive Momentum from Midweek Triumph

The team enters the fixture buoyed by a strong midweek victory over Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. Optimism grows further with confirmation that Eberechi Eze is ready for selection against Bournemouth.

Injury Updates and Squad News

The 27-year-old winger overcame a calf injury and resumed training earlier this week. Arteta confirmed his availability, stating: “He is available. My first conversation with him after he felt that niggle, he wanted to be available the next week. That was not possible. The recovery, the way he has shown to get back, the way he has pushed.”

Arteta remained guarded on other squad members. Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Piero Hincapie, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber all sat out Thursday’s session. When pressed on changes since the previous day, the manager replied: “Yes, there have been changes there since yesterday.” Regarding their potential involvement against Bournemouth, he added: “I don’t know. Some of them.”

Guardiola Outlines Title Requirements

Manchester City, trailing by nine points with one game fewer played, faces a steep challenge. Guardiola outlined the path forward: “We have to win every single game. Hopefully we can get a lot of points. The situation we are in in the Premier League, we need to get all of them otherwise it will not give us a chance to try until the end.”

He continued: “We need to get a lot of points. We have not been consistent enough in the season. We have dropped points that we should have taken, which is why we are now in the position where we cannot do it differently.”

Victory in all eight remaining fixtures, including a home game against Arsenal on April 19, would yield 85 points for City. Arsenal could surpass this total—even with a loss to City—by securing five wins and one draw from their other six matches. Alternatively, five more triumphs might clinch the title on goal difference if City wins out.
