Lisa Wilkinson Clears Rumors, Unveils Titanic Survivor’s Book

Published on

Veteran broadcaster Lisa Wilkinson, 66, returns to the public eye with candid revelations about her recent challenges and a passion project that renewed her focus.

New Book Offers Escape from Turmoil

Wilkinson describes mixed emotions of nervousness and excitement over her latest work, The Titanic Story of Evelyn. The book spotlights Evelyn Marsden, the sole Australian survivor of the RMS Titanic disaster.

“Spending a lot of time with lawyers is not an ideal way to live,” Wilkinson states. The project emerged amid intense legal proceedings, providing a vital distraction. “I was everywhere in the press. I was sick of me,” she adds.

Delving into Marsden’s life allowed Wilkinson to shift attention from her own struggles. “It was the most incredibly wonderful distraction to delve into someone else’s life,” she explains. She fell in love with Marsden’s resilience, dedicating the book to “every woman, like Evelyn, who has ever rowed against the tide.”

Researching the Titanic tragedy, which claimed over 1,500 lives, offered vital perspective. “When you deal with tragedy on that level, it puts into perspective any troubles I might have been having,” Wilkinson notes.

Reflections on Brittany Higgins Interview

Wilkinson stands firm on her 2021 The Project interview with Brittany Higgins, despite the ensuing public storm. “I don’t think I ever had regrets, but I certainly had some very rough days,” she says. “I’m OK, I’m not on the Titanic, not fighting to save my life. I’m just hoping to defend some work of mine.”

She highlights one key achievement with pride and expresses deep admiration for Higgins. “I really wish Brittany all strength… She keeps standing up. I have nothing but admiration for her.”

Forced Departure from The Project

In 2022, Channel 10 removed Wilkinson from air, a decision not of her making. “No, not at all. Channel 10 took me off air. It was their decision, not mine,” she confirms.

She had no choice but to announce her exit live on air. “Sometimes in life when you’re given no choice, you just steel yourself. You do it, you keep moving forward,” Wilkinson reflects.

Away from the spotlight, Wilkinson enjoys a quieter life with husband Peter FitzSimons while embracing this new chapter.
