Singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, faces arrest on suspicion of murdering 13-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Authorities discovered the teenager’s remains inside a Tesla registered to the 21-year-old Houston native last September.
Details of the Arrest
LAPD officers executed a probable cause arrest warrant at D4vd’s Hollywood Hills home on Thursday. A neighbor reported hearing police shout ‘surrender’ over a loudspeaker before escorting the suspect away in handcuffs. He remains in custody without bail.
Captain Scot M. Williams of the LAPD’s robbery-homicide division stated: “We came to the home with a probable cause arrest warrant for him. We did the best we can to keep tabs on him, but once we developed probable cause to arrest him for murder, then we were on him pretty diligently.”
Discovery of Remains
Investigators found the Tesla abandoned at a tow yard after employees reported a foul odor. Court documents reveal a body bag containing the victim’s head and torso, along with a second bag holding other remains.
Hernandez vanished in April 2024, telling family she was heading to a movie. Her cause of death has not been determined.
Legal Response
D4vd’s attorneys, Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter, maintain his innocence. They declared: “Let us be clear – the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death. There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed. David has only been detained under suspicion.” They plan to defend him vigorously.
