Sunrise presenter Katie Brown, 34, recently shared a hilarious throwback video on Instagram capturing an unexpected moment from her early career as a junior reporter.
Windy Mishap at Marijuana Raid
The footage shows a younger Katie standing near a large pile of marijuana plants that police were burning after a drug raid in Coffs Harbour around 2012 or 2013. As she delivered her live report, the wind suddenly shifted, blowing thick cannabis smoke directly into her face.
Katie bent over coughing while crew members laughed off-camera. She captioned the clip: “POV: you’re a junior reporter covering a marijuana raid and the wind changes.”
“Don’t remember how my story finished, but I remember being so hungry all day,” she added, highlighting the memorable aftermath.
From Nine to Seven Stardom
Katie started her journalism career with Nine before transitioning to Seven. A former 7NEWS Queensland sports reporter, she joined the Sunrise team in 2023.
A Glimpse into Her Intense Workday
In 2024, Katie offered insight into her demanding schedule as one of Australia’s busiest TV journalists. On a particularly hectic Tuesday, she rose at 3:30 a.m. after a late-night movie marathon.
She hosted Sunrise Sport at 5:30 a.m., grabbed breakfast at 6:30 a.m., then flew from Sydney to Brisbane at 9 a.m. There, she conducted six interviews before enjoying a gourmet buffet lunch at midday.
By 3 p.m., she was back on a flight to Sydney, returning home for dinner and an early bedtime. “Terrific Tuesday,” she posted alongside a weary thumbs-up photo.
Later, she shared a treadmill selfie, noting: “Forgot to mention my two plane naps – sorry-not-sorry if you saw me drool.” Katie emphasized that such “ballistic, fun, crazy” days are not the norm.
