Marks & Spencer has launched a recall for its Authentic Greek Yoghurt with Vanilla due to the presence of undeclared gluten. The affected products are 500g packs with a use-by date of May 12.
Product and Risk Details
This yoghurt poses a health risk to individuals with gluten allergies, intolerances, or coeliac disease, as gluten is not listed on the label. The company has notified relevant allergy support organizations to alert their members. Point-of-sale notices appear in stores stocking the product and on the Marks & Spencer website, outlining the reason for the recall and instructing customers on next steps.

Understanding Gluten-Related Conditions
Coeliac UK research shows that about 1 in 100 people in the UK live with coeliac disease, a serious autoimmune disorder where gluten triggers an immune attack on the gut lining. Only around 36% receive a diagnosis, leaving approximately 500,000 individuals unaware of their condition.
Non-Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) affects another group who test negative for coeliac disease or wheat allergies but suffer symptoms after consuming gluten. UK studies estimate up to 13% of the population—around 8 to 9 million people—experience these issues, though no definitive test exists.
Wheat allergy, an IgE-mediated response, impacts 0.1% to 1% of adults. It can provoke immediate, severe reactions such as anaphylaxis, hives, or swelling, targeting wheat proteins rather than gluten from barley or rye.
