Carol McGiffin Regrets Marriage to Chris Evans: ‘Didn’t Like Him’

Published on

Carol McGiffin, 66, has openly admitted regretting her marriage to former BBC host and current Virgin Radio presenter Chris Evans, 60. The couple wed in 1991 but divorced seven years later in 1998.

Unexpected Union

McGiffin and Evans first crossed paths in 1988 when she worked as a producer for Music Box and he reported on the network for his Manchester radio show. A year later, they collaborated at a London company. Evans later invited her to host the ‘What’s On’ slot on BBC’s Greater London Radio.

Their romance sparked during a boozy press trip to Dunkirk and culminated after a drunken night out in London. Reflecting on the relationship, McGiffin described Evans’ entrance: “He came into the office, all legs and bright orange hair – but it was the oh-so-confident swagger that got my attention.”

Honest Reflections

On Best magazine’s Suddenly Single podcast, McGiffin stated bluntly, “I don’t really know why we got married. We shouldn’t have. For quite a lot of the time, I didn’t like him.”

During a 2019 appearance on Loose Women, she added, “I was just swept along. At the time I convinced myself I couldn’t live without him.”

Life After Divorce

Evans later married pop star and actress Billie Piper, but they divorced in 2007 and maintain amicable relations. He now shares four children with his wife, Natasha Shishmanian.

McGiffin married her husband, Mark Cassidy, in a private ceremony in 2018.
