Paige Shiver, former executive assistant to University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore, reveals that Moore exercised complete control over her emotions and career. In forthcoming interview excerpts, she states he knowingly used this influence against her.
First Public Comments Since Firing and Sentencing
This marks Shiver’s initial public statement following Moore’s dismissal in December and his sentencing earlier this month. The university terminated Moore, then 39, due to an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Authorities arrested him soon after an incident at Shiver’s apartment.
Details of the Legal Case
Court records show Moore received 18 months of probation on April 14 for a felony charge of third-degree home invasion, along with misdemeanor counts of trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device. He avoided incarceration but must pursue mental health treatment, refrain from alcohol, and maintain no contact with Shiver.
Prosecutors note that Moore sent repeated unwanted messages after Shiver ended their relationship and reported it to the university. Police reports indicate he later appeared at her apartment and threatened self-harm.
Shiver Describes Pattern of Control
Shiver recounts multiple efforts to distance herself. “Every time I tried to pull away, every time I tried to try and get out of even Michigan, he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in and making me feel that I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me,” she explains.
Following the sentencing, Shiver issued a statement through her attorneys asserting that the punishment fails to address the harm inflicted or the evidence presented.
The full interview airs Friday.
