Gary Neville and his wife faced verbal abuse from a man walking a highly aggressive dog during a stroll through Manchester earlier this week. Neville expressed fear that the man might unleash the dog on them.
Details of the Confrontation
A video circulating on X shows the man hurling insults at Neville, repeatedly calling him a ‘f****** w******’ and a ‘p****’. Neville paused upon hearing his name, appearing shocked by the unprovoked attack.
The couple had just attended a James concert in Manchester alongside Neville’s former Manchester United teammate, Roy Keane.
Neville’s Reaction on Podcast
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Neville regretted not recording the incident himself. He stated: “He had, I’m presuming, a very aggressive dog on a lead. I thought he was going to let the dog go. I thought it was one of them where he was gonna go like that [releasing the lead].”
Neville highlighted the distress of the event, especially in his wife’s presence: “That’s the bit that’s wrong. It’s the first time it’s happened like that, but when you’re with your wife…”
Podcast Hosts Condemn the Abuse
Fellow hosts on the podcast strongly denounced the harassment. Ian Wright remarked: “That was a mean one. It’s just horrible.”
Jill Scott added: “It was so out of order,” noting she would have confronted the man physically.
