Simon Cowell, 66, stepped out with two bottles of beer after attending the first live semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent alongside fiancée Lauren Silverman on Saturday. The couple supported the BBC show ahead of Sunday’s final, exiting in separate cars while both appeared in high spirits.
Cheerful Departure from the Event
Simon beamed broadly as he clutched the beers inside his vehicle. Lauren flashed a smile at cameras before entering her cab, radiating positivity after the evening’s performances.
Lauren’s Playful Wedding Comment
Lauren recently joked about their prolonged engagement during an ExtraTV interview with host Terri Seymour. When asked if she needs a hat for the wedding, Lauren quipped, ‘You mean like for a wedding? Is that what that means?’ Seymour joked back about a funeral, prompting Lauren to laugh: ‘Well, who knows which one is going to happen first at the rate we’re going?’
Relationship Background
The couple met in Barbados in 2004 and began dating around 2012. They welcomed son Eric in 2014 and got engaged on Christmas Eve 2021. Lauren, previously married to businessman Andrew Silverman with whom she shares son Adam, 20, recently changed her name to Cowell by deed poll.
In their new Netflix docuseries The Next Act, which follows Simon’s search for young musicians, Lauren appears signing the paperwork. She explains, ‘Look, I am Mrs Cowell. I have created a life with Simon, we have a child together, we have a solid relationship.’ The change symbolizes family unity, as she notes Simon’s support for the decision.
Wedding Plans on the Horizon
Simon, once vocal about his reluctance to marry, now confirms a wedding looms. ‘When we decide to do it, it will be private then people will know about it,’ he stated. ‘The fact that she talks about changing her name, it’s quite obvious where all this is leading to. We have a very, very close bond. I adore her. We are a very happy family, genuinely.’
He persuaded Lauren to join the docuseries, praising her authenticity: ‘She was a bit reluctant in the beginning, and then she got more used to it. The funny thing about her is that she is identical on the show as she is in real life.’
Past Reluctance and Relationship History
Their romance drew attention in 2013 when Lauren’s pregnancy became public while she was still married to Andrew. Simon reflected, ‘I’m not proud of the circumstances… This was not something I planned. But I remember going to the first scan with Lauren… Something just kicked in. I felt unbelievably protective of both of them.’
Previously, Simon expressed doubts about marriage, citing risks in his industry. In 2008, he said, ‘I don’t believe in marriage, certainly not in this business. The truth is that you get married and in a year or two they clean you out!’ He has dated high-profile figures like Sinitta, Jackie St. Clair, and Terri Seymour.
