Jesy Nelson Shares Adorable Twins Video After Equipment Theft

Published on

Jesy Nelson has posted a touching video featuring her nine-month-old twin daughters, Ocean and Story, shortly after thieves stole vital medical equipment from her car.

Twins’ SMA1 Diagnosis and Ongoing Care

The twins face Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1), a rare condition that weakens muscles. Jesy Nelson campaigns vigorously for the NHS to include SMA1 screening in newborn tests across England. Late diagnosis prevents her daughters from walking, and they require constant around-the-clock care.

Heartwarming Family Video

In the clip, the girls lie on the floor holding hands while dressed in matching yellow outfits adorned with lemons, soaking up the warmer weather. Jesy captioned the post: “My whole heart and soul.” A voice-over in the video states: “I love my kids, I love their mother, for some reason there’s something more important than that.”

The post quickly garnered thousands of likes and supportive comments from celebrities and fans. Singer Whigfield wrote: “They’re so beautiful.” Love Island star Shaughna Phillips added: “Precious angels.” Fans shared messages like: “Dear heavenly father, continue to look after and bless these beautiful babies, in Jesus’ name, amen.” Another commented: “Beautiful girls, love seeing this Jesy.”

Medical Equipment Theft and Reward Offer

Earlier this month, intruders took Jesy’s car from her driveway, including essential hospital equipment for her daughters. She posted: “I have so much of my girls’ hospital equipment in that car that’s really needed.” Jesy offered a £10,000 reward for its recovery, noting the vehicle was last seen around 3 a.m. near Chelmsford on April 19. She urged anyone with information to contact her or authorities.

Milestone in SMA Newborn Screening

Jesy recently marked a significant achievement in her advocacy efforts. England plans to roll out SMA testing for all newborns starting in October. She shared: “I just wanted to come on here to share some information and news that I have heard over the last couple of days. As you know I’ve been campaigning to try and get SMA as part of the newborn screening here in England. My girls were diagnosed with SMA Type 1, and unfortunately, they weren’t tested at birth because it wasn’t here in England.”

“They have now decided to roll that out in October for all babies in England to be tested at birth for SMA, which is absolutely incredible. I know it is a really big moment for the SMA community because this has been going on for years, trying to get this passed, so yeah, it is a real proud moment.”

However, Jesy highlighted challenges ahead: “It’s just bittersweet because we’re not fully there yet. It’s like literally a postcode lottery because it’s not the whole of England. There’ll be 163,000 babies that won’t get screened – and that is a lot of babies. If you live in a certain part of the country, you’re not going to get tested.”

“There are truly life-changing treatments out there, so no baby should be an experiment – showing what the difference is. This shouldn’t even be a thing. All babies should be getting tested, and all babies should be living.”

Three treatments now approved by the NHS halt SMA progression. One, Nusinersen (Spinraza), involves spinal injections every four months to boost SMN protein production.
