WW1 Colony Sim ‘Dig In’ Blends Trench Warfare and Base Building

Published on

Icelandic studio Vitar Games unveils Dig In, a unique colony simulator set in the trenches of World War I. This game merges intense trench warfare with base-building management and real-time tactics, creating deep systemic interactions on the battlefield.

Strategic Trench Construction

Players design expansive trench networks from a top-down view, fortifying them with dugouts, barbed wire, and reinforced walls. Each soldier receives individual attention, complete with a named profile, distinctive portrait, and backstory ranging from street life to privileged nobility. Maintaining their physical needs and morale proves essential for survival.

Dynamic Battles and Tactics

Intense combat unfolds as players defend against enemy assaults while planning counterattacks to capture map quadrants. Artillery barrages deliver indiscriminate firepower, and troops charge over the top after securing safe paths. Runners serve as critical messengers, carrying orders across the lines. Delays or miscommunications can lead to catastrophic failures, such as failed attack cancellations.

The game emphasizes realistic command challenges, where every decision impacts the front lines.

Upcoming Early Access Launch

Dig In enters early access soon on Steam. Fans of war-themed strategy titles may also explore War Hospital or the persistent World War I MMO Foxhole for similar experiences.
