Georgia Toffolo attributes the stress from her husband James Watt’s BrewDog collapse to her five-month challenge in conceiving a child. The Made in Chelsea star recently shared her emotional journey on Instagram, describing it as lonely and unpredictable.
BrewDog’s Recent Collapse
James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog since 2008 with Martin Dickie, faces intense scrutiny after the company accumulated over £500 million in debts, leading to administration. The Scottish brewery shut down 38 UK bars and laid off 484 staff during an all-hands meeting. At its height, BrewDog managed over 120 bars in 57 countries.
Controversies plagued the firm from 2021, including allegations of a toxic workplace culture and dropping the Real Living Wage in 2024. Watt attempted a £10 million personal investment in a failed rescue bid. Tilray Brands acquired the business for £33 million, retaining 733 staff across operations and 11 franchised pubs.
Tilray CEO Irwin Simon criticizes Watt’s leadership as a ‘stigma’ for the brand. Simon confirms no plans for Watt’s return and states he has not contacted him.

Reflecting on the year, Toffolo says, ‘I’m sitting here thinking about the year. We’ve had so much stress. I’m sure you guys have seen it all, public stuff like the BrewDog stuff has been really difficult to navigate.’
She adds, ‘Every single family across the world there’s always stuff going on. I just think that coinciding with starting to try for a baby it’s been a lot for us and we’re both very tough and very strong and struggled to acknowledge that it’s been a tricky year.’
Toffolo expected quick results due to their fitness, stating, ‘On top of my naivety I really did just think that if you’re super fit and healthy like us you get pregnant really quickly, but it isn’t always the case. Sometimes there’s just a lot of stuff going on that’s biological – but I think all of it coinciding…’
Doctors assure her that five months without conception remains normal. She describes the ‘two-week wait’ agony: every symptom like cramps or breast tenderness signals either pregnancy or menstruation, creating uncertainty.
Initially, Toffolo tested alone, but Watt intervened: ‘Babe, you need to stop doing that on your own. We are doing this together.’ This partnership brings her relief.
She clarifies, ‘We are not struggling with infertility, we are two incredibly fortunate people. We are just at that weird in-between stage.’ Toffolo seeks stories from others with similar paths that ended positively.
Recent Marriage
The couple married in March 2024 on a fishing boat off Gardenstown, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Watt proposed in October 2023 during her 30th birthday trip to Greece with an eight-carat, triple-diamond ring valued at £200,000.
