A 30-year-old Miami woman faces robbery charges after using Instagram direct messages to lure a man to her luxury high-rise apartment, where she and two accomplices allegedly robbed him, authorities report.
Details of the Robbery
Nicole Cano invited the unidentified victim to her unit at Paraiso Bayviews Condos on April 11 for drinks. He arrived shortly after 8 p.m. While standing on the balcony with views of Biscayne Bay, two unknown women emerged from the bedroom.
The three women confronted the man and demanded his money. When he replied that he had no cash, they blocked his exit and warned him, “You’re going to pay.” A struggle followed as they grabbed at a gold chain around his neck.
Miami Police Officer Michael Vega stated, “They tried to get his gold chain. They were not successful. But they did take a crucifix that he had on his chain that was valued at over $300.”
The victim escaped the condo, yelling for help, and later identified Cano in a police photo lineup.
Arrest and Charges
Authorities arrested Cano on May 4. She admitted contacting the man via Instagram but denied participating in the robbery. Rentals at the Paraiso Bayviews complex can reach $15,000 per month.
Cano faces charges of strong-armed robbery, punishable by up to 15 years in Florida, and false imprisonment, which carries a maximum five-year sentence and $10,000 fine.
She remains at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. On Tuesday, a judge set her bond at $7,500. The two other suspects remain unidentified.
Police Seek Tips
Officer Vega urged, “We ask anybody that has information or who is also a victim of this female or of any other to please contact the City of Miami Police Department and give us that information.”
