New York Knicks supporters and players celebrated a commanding series sweep over the Philadelphia 76ers, highlighted by taunts following a blowout Game 4 victory in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Knicks Crush 76ers in Game 4
The Knicks dominated with a 144-114 rout on Sunday night, clinching the series 4-0 in what fans dubbed the ‘Mother’s Day Massacre.’ Thousands of New York fans packed the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, transforming the venue into a sea of blue and orange.
Fans Mob Local Reporter
After the game, rowdy Knicks fans interrupted a local TV broadcast. ABC reporter Cheyenne Corin noted, ‘You would think I’m in New York right now instead of Philadelphia,’ as supporters cheered around her and displayed signs reading ‘Welcome to MSG East.’
Josh Hart Trolls Philly Fans
In the locker room, Knicks star Josh Hart mocked the Philadelphia crowd. ‘Everybody was begging for Philly to not sell their tickets,’ he said. ‘I used to think Philly was a sports town. I don’t know if it is anymore.’
New York Takeover Despite Warnings
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid had urged local fans before the series not to sell tickets to Knicks supporters, but New York fans bypassed restrictions and dominated the 19,746 in attendance. Celebrities including Spike Lee and Timothee Chalamet joined the traveling contingent.
Knicks fans taunted Embiid with printed photos of him being posterized by Mitchell Robinson during a Game 3 dunk. They waved the images while he shot free throws and chanted ‘Mr. Glass!’
Sweep Celebrations and Sixers Reactions
Outside the arena, Knicks supporters waved brooms to symbolize the clean sweep. Disheartened 76ers fans voiced frustration: One said, ‘I ain’t going to lie, this is a Mother’s Day massacre. I left my mom [for this]… I have to make it up to momma.’
Another called for the dismissal of head coach Nick Nurse, while a female fan fought back tears, describing the playoff loss as ‘heartbreaking.’
