Emerging 19-year-old batter Ollie Peake and all-rounder Liam Scott earn their first selections in Australia’s white-ball squads, while veteran T20 all-rounder Glenn Maxwell sits out the upcoming tours.
Tour Schedule and Key Absences
Australia faces Pakistan in three one-day internationals in Rawalpindi and Lahore starting May 30. The team then heads to Bangladesh in June for three ODIs in Dhaka and three T20s in Chattogram.
ODI captain Pat Cummins, along with fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, skip the tours to recover after IPL commitments. T20 skipper Mitchell Marsh takes over ODI captaincy duties.
Squad Changes and New Faces
Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, both part of the Australia team that exited early from this year’s T20 World Cup group stage, drop from the squads. Peake, who has led Australia at Under-19 level, makes his senior debut during the Pakistan series but misses Bangladesh action.
Senior players Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, and Ben Dwarshuis return for Bangladesh after IPL stints. The 25-year-old Scott joins both ODI squads, while 22-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder Joel Davies receives his initial T20 call-up.
National selection chair George Bailey commented, “It’s always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team.” He added, “The blend of experienced players coupled with new or returning players will provide a nice mix for these subcontinent tours.”
