Social Media Star Faces Criticism for Extravagant Fashion Purchase
Controversial social media personality Elle Ferguson is facing significant online backlash after documenting a 30-hour journey from Sydney to Paris solely to purchase a pair of designer heels. The 41-year-old Australian influencer shared a video on Instagram showcasing her visit to a Valentino boutique, where she tried on several pairs of pumps, each priced at approximately $1,680.
The shoes in question featured an open-toe design with a transparent strip across the front, a style that drew immediate criticism from many of Ferguson’s followers. In her post, Ferguson captioned the video, “Travelled 30hrs from Sydney to Paris to get THE heels of the season. Say hello to the Open Toe Révélé Suede Pumps.”
Public Divided on Designer Footwear and Travel Choices
The public reaction to Ferguson’s post was largely negative, with numerous users deeming the shoes “ugly” and “overpriced.” Comments included:
- “HIDEOUS. Girl you wasted money on shoes that are ugly, overpriced, and will break easy.”
- “That plastic is going to have so much pressure on it, it’s gonna snap right off after a night out.”
- “It’s not a flex you think it is.”
- “That’s the most hideous style of heels I have ever seen.”
- “Hate to say this but they’re awful.”
- “Girl those are terrible.”
Some users drew unflattering comparisons, likening the shoe design to camel toes or a pair of front teeth. Beyond the aesthetics of the footwear, many also questioned the necessity of such extensive travel for a shopping trip.
“You didn’t have anything better to do?” one commenter asked, while another inquired, “You couldn’t get them shipped?”
However, not all reactions were negative. A segment of Ferguson’s audience expressed admiration for her dedication to acquiring the sought-after shoes.
“I think they are super cool and unique,” one supporter wrote. Another agreed, “I actually love them!” while a third added, “They’re definitely a cool girl heel!”
Previous Controversy Over Luxury Item Comparison
This incident follows closely behind another controversial statement made by Ferguson last week. She previously generated headlines for suggesting that a designer jewelry box is superior to having children.
Ferguson, who does not have children, posted a video of herself with a Louis Vuitton “Seashell Box,” which retails for approximately $23,600. The box is constructed from monogram-coated canvas with a microfibre lining and brass hardware.
Her accompanying message stated, “Just saw someone from high school post a photo with their 3 kids saying ‘What could be better than this?’. Respectfully – a $23,600 LV Seashell Box.” She later added a disclaimer, “Take it with a grain of salt,” but this did little to appease critics.
Reactions to Jewelry Box Comment
The comments section for the jewelry box post was filled with criticism:
- “Respectfully, I hope you are joking.”
- “Kids are much better than a cheesy Louis Vuitton shell jewelry case.”
- “A LV seashell box will never say, ‘Mamma ti voglio un mondo di bene’ [Mum I love you so much]. Nothing can beat THIS feeling… respectfully!”
One user even claimed they “wouldn’t be taking the jewellery box for free,” while another questioned if Ferguson was paid to promote the item.
Conversely, some users agreed with Ferguson’s sentiment, with one joking, “I have three kids, and yes you’re right.” Several celebrity friends, including influencers Elle Gonsalves and Simone Holtznagel, and Booby Tape founder Bianca Roccisano, showed their support in the comments.
