The beloved cooperative puzzle-platformer series Trine is set to continue its vibrant journey with a sixth installment, promising a fresh adventure filled with both familiar faces and compelling new characters. Trine 6: Together in Time is slated for release on September 17th, bringing its signature visually stunning world to PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
This latest chapter introduces two enterprising young siblings, Moira and Adrius, whose lives become unexpectedly intertwined with the realm’s legendary heroes. Their story kicks off when a heist goes awry, drawing them into the path of danger. As expected, the established trio of Amadeus the Wizard, Zoya the Thief, and Pontius the Knight will be returning, offering players a choice of five distinct characters for cooperative play, supporting one to four players. Together, they must race against time to thwart a malevolent warlock intent on unleashing magical chaos across the land.
New Mechanics and Character Abilities
Trine 6 retains the series’ core side-scrolling platforming and intricate puzzle-solving gameplay. A notable addition is the new ‘Time-Slow’ ability, designed to provide players with crucial moments of respite for executing precise jumps and evading enemy attacks during combat. This feature will likely prove essential, as developers are promising enemies with unique abilities, including those capable of shielding or empowering allies. Furthermore, boss encounters are set to blend combat, traversal challenges, and environmental manipulation.
Each playable character boasts their own set of useful skills. Amadeus the Wizard can conjure and manipulate objects with his magic, while Zoya the Thief utilizes her bow and arrow alongside a grappling rope for aerial navigation. Pontius the Knight wields his formidable hammer and shield, employing the latter for both defense and offensive maneuvers.
The new protagonists bring their own unique talents to the fray. Moira, known as ‘the Acrobat,’ can perform chained kick combos and swing through the environment using her ribbon. Adrius the Squire is equipped with a spear, useful for both attacking and creating platforms.
Cooperative Design and Accessibility
Developers have emphasized a “co-op-first approach” to puzzle design in Trine 6. This means that solutions to puzzles are not dependent on any single character’s unique abilities, ensuring that any hero can contribute to overcoming challenges. For solo players, the puzzles have been specifically reconfigured to accommodate a single player’s experience.
The game will offer both local and online cooperative play, with the added convenience of crossplay support, allowing players on different platforms to team up. Trine 6: Together in Time launches on September 17th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
