Young Goalkeeper’s Emotional Departure from Arsenal Academy

Alexei Rojas, a promising young goalkeeper at Arsenal, has confirmed his departure from the club after an eight-year tenure. The 20-year-old is among a group of eight academy prospects being released this month, marking a significant transition in his professional journey.

A Heartfelt Farewell

Rojas took to social media to express his gratitude and reflect on his time at the North London club. “I am incredibly pleased to have spent eight years at Arsenal Football Club,” he stated. “Progressing through from the academy to the first team. Every step of the journey has taught me about what it takes to perform as an elite athlete, on and off the pitch.”

He continued, “It has been a true privilege to work with so many elite people across the years. I extend my gratitude to all of the coaching staff, performance & medical teams, chefs, ground staff, security team, and everybody involved with Arsenal. This club has helped shape me as a player, and as a person. I will always be grateful for the opportunities, lessons, and memories that I’ve gained here.”

Addressing the club’s fanbase, Rojas added, “And to the Arsenal fans, thank you for your unwavering support, passion, and love for the club. Wearing this badge has been a privilege, and hearing your encouragement every step of the way is something I’ll never forget.”

Looking ahead, Rojas explained his decision to move on: “I have decided to take the best step for my career and begin a new stage in my professional journey, with new challenges ahead of me. Great things are achieved by taking bold risks. This club will forever be in my heart. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner. Thank you, Arsenal.”

Player Profile and Future Prospects

Rojas, who was once highly regarded within the Arsenal academy, has represented the Colombian national team at various youth levels. Despite signing a professional contract in 2024 and regularly training with the first team, he did not make a senior appearance for the Gunners.

Beyond his football career, Rojas is an advocate for sustainability in sports. He is scheduled to speak at the London School of Economics later this month to discuss football’s potential role in driving climate action.

Departing Academy Colleagues

Rojas’s departure follows that of several other academy prospects. The list of players leaving Arsenal’s academy this month includes Sam Chapman, Harrison Dudziak, Seb Ferdinand, Cam’ron Ismail, Will Lannin-Sweet, Josh Nichols, and Samuel Onyekachukwu.
