Kai Rooney, the 16-year-old son of football legends Wayne and Coleen Rooney, recently shared an update on his fitness progress, posting images from a rigorous gym session. The young sportsman, who plays forward for Manchester United’s youth academy, was seen working out in a high-rise facility, donning a vest, beanie, and tracksuit shorts.

Despite being in the off-season, Kai is actively maintaining his fitness regime. This dedication comes after a setback in March when he revealed on Instagram that an injury would sideline him for the remainder of the season. He expressed his disappointment, writing, “Disappointed to be out for the rest of the season. Back stronger next pre-season.” This announcement followed an impressive campaign for the U18s, having made his debut in January.

Eyes on the Future: Professional Contract and Career Ambitions

Kai is eligible for a professional contract with Manchester United next season, having earned his first scholarship. His commitment to his career is further underscored by his recent signing with super agent Triple S Sports. This agency is headed by Paul Stretford, Wayne Rooney’s long-time football agent, who has represented the former Manchester United star since he was 17.

Kai has previously articulated his determination to forge his own path in the sport. In August 2024, he stated, “I’m trying to make a name for myself, not try and be my dad because I’m my own person. I want to see how my career goes, obviously try to do the best I can and try to reach the biggest stages. I’m just focusing on me and to try to not let any pressure get to me and just keep working on me day by day, month by month.”

Coleen Rooney has also spoken about Kai’s experiences with public attention, noting his request for his father to refrain from attending grassroots matches. She explained during her time on “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” in 2024 that Kai felt overwhelmed by the attention his father’s presence attracted, making it difficult to enjoy the game.
