Anime Inspiration Fuels New PRS SE Guitar Model
An innovative collaboration has resulted in a real-world electric guitar inspired by a beloved anime character. Lilisa, a prominent figure from the popular series ‘Rock is a Lady’s Modesty,’ now has a signature instrument brought to life by a renowned guitar manufacturer. This new offering places Lilisa alongside established artists on the company’s roster.
The ‘Rock is a Lady’s Modesty’ manga series, created by Hiroshi Fukuda, achieved significant popularity last year with its television adaptation. Capitalizing on this success, the guitar maker has transformed the fictional instrument into a tangible playing experience. The newly released PRS SE Rock Lady draws design cues from the company’s Paul’s Guitar model and the signature instrument created for Kanami Tōno of BAND-MAID in 2024.
Key Features and Design Elements
The PRS SE Rock Lady features a classic tonewood combination of a mahogany body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. Visually, it stands out with a striking Pink Pearl top, a black headstock face, a natural back finish, and distinctive purple-toned pickup bobbins. A notable departure from Lilisa’s on-screen guitar is the inclusion of PRS’s signature inlays.
The instrument is equipped with TCI “S” treble and bass pickups, promising bright tones and versatile soapbar sounds. Players can explore eight distinct pickup combinations through a three-way toggle switch and dedicated mini-switches for coil-tapping. The Stoptail bridge incorporates specially curved slots with brass inserts, designed to optimize string contact and enhance resonance. Vintage-style tuners and a unique lily decal on the truss rod cover complete the aesthetic.
A Player’s Instrument, Not Just a Collectible
Company executives have expressed enthusiasm for the project. According to PRS COO, Jack Higginbotham, this initiative represents one of their most creative and unconventional endeavors to date. He stated, “Developing a guitar with a fictional artist is not something we do every day. It has been a lot of fun, but this is far more than a commemorative display piece – it’s a true player’s guitar, designed for performance and durability.”
It is worth noting that Kanami Tōno not only wrote the theme song for the TV show but also performed it with her bandmates from BAND-MAID. The band also contributed to the show’s hyper-realistic performance visuals through motion capture technology.
