United’s Midfield Rebuild Gains Momentum with Transfer Targets

Manchester United’s summer transfer strategy appears to be taking shape, with recent developments from the England squad potentially opening a pathway for a key midfield signing. As the England team prepares for upcoming friendlies in the United States, several players involved in these initial fixtures may see their availability for club discussions increase. This situation could prove beneficial for manager Michael Carrick as he aims to bolster his side’s midfield options for the next season.

Alex Scott Transfer Opportunity Looms

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, recently called up for England’s pre-tournament friendlies by manager Thomas Tuchel, is reportedly set to return to the UK following these matches. Scott was among several young talents, including Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha, Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, and Fulham’s Josh King, who traveled to the US. His departure from the England camp after the fixtures could signal an opportune moment for United’s recruitment efforts.

Reports suggest that United is prioritizing more attainable targets over a significant bidding war for other players. Bournemouth playmaker Scott, whose step-sister Maya Le Tissier captains United’s women’s team, and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes are identified as realistic options, with each potentially costing around £80 million. Scott’s return from international duty could expedite discussions for a summer transfer, allowing him to undergo a medical should an agreement be reached between the clubs.

The Cherries acquired Scott from Bristol City for approximately £25 million in the summer of 2023. The 22-year-old has since demonstrated his capabilities in the Premier League. With other clubs, including Liverpool, reportedly interested, United may need to act swiftly to secure his signature.

Mamadou Sangare Emerges as a £35m Target

In parallel, United is reportedly close to finalizing a £39 million deal for Ederson from Atalanta. However, this transfer may face delays due to Ederson’s late call-up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup.

Another midfielder being linked with a move to Old Trafford is Lens’ Mamadou Sangare. Sources indicate that United is preparing a £35 million offer for the 23-year-old, whose impressive performances in Ligue 1 have attracted significant attention. The final transfer fee could potentially exceed this figure.

Lens’ recent success, including winning the Coupe de France and finishing second in the league, has led to interest in their players. Manager Pierre Sage’s departure for Crystal Palace could also see Sangare follow suit. United’s interest in the Mali international is said to be the strongest among the clubs vying for his services.

Sangare joined Lens from Rapid Vienna last summer and quickly established himself as a standout player in a major European league. This potential transfer is viewed as a cost-effective solution and aligns with the club’s strategy of acquiring less prominent but profile-fitting players for Carrick’s vision.
