Morrisons Offers Select Shoppers £250 Reward Scheme

Published on

Rising grocery prices are presenting a significant challenge for many households across the UK, with the cost of essential items continually impacting household budgets. Recent analyses indicate that a substantial portion of trading businesses anticipate price increases for their goods and services in the near future, suggesting that weekly grocery bills will continue to climb. In an effort to alleviate some of this financial strain, supermarket chain Morrisons has introduced a new initiative for its More Card members, offering a potential 10% reward through its More Plus Scheme.

Key Details of the More Plus Scheme

This new scheme allows eligible shoppers to earn a 10% reward on their spending, but it comes with specific conditions. To qualify, customers must spend a minimum of £250 by the end of June. The Morrisons More Card itself is free to obtain and already provides members with points on purchases and discounts on select items. Accumulating 5,000 points equates to £5 in store credit, with ten points valued at one pence.

For participation in the More Plus Scheme, the £250 spending threshold must be met by June 30th. This spending can be accumulated across multiple transactions, whether shopping in-store or online, provided the More Card is scanned. Progress can be monitored via the Morrisons app or on printed receipts. Customers without the app can visit a store’s customer service desk with their receipts to have the spending added to their account.

Once the £250 spending target is reached, a 10% offer reward will be made available in the ‘My Offers’ section of the app, ready to be activated for a subsequent shop. Importantly, the scheme is not universally available; only ‘selected customers’ will be invited to participate, regardless of their regular shopping habits or More Card status.

Eligibility and Exclusions

The supermarket advises customers to check their app to determine if they have received an invitation to join the More Plus Scheme. It is also crucial to note that certain items are excluded from the total spend calculation for this promotion. These include, but are not limited to: fuel, cashback services, lottery products, tobacco and related items, prescription medicines and pharmacy services, infant milk and formula, gift vouchers, E-top-ups, and postage stamps. Additionally, purchases made through Amazon and Deliveroo are not eligible for this scheme.

Assessing the Value of Loyalty Schemes

The benefit of this 10% reward largely depends on individual spending patterns. For customers who already regularly spend around £250 per month at Morrisons, the reward can effectively lower their grocery expenses. However, it may not be financially advantageous for those who would need to increase their spending significantly solely to meet the threshold.

Expert Advice on Maximizing Loyalty Cards

Money-saving experts offer guidance on utilizing loyalty schemes effectively:

  • Stick to a Plan: Be wary of promotional offers that may lead to impulse purchases of items not on your usual shopping list. For those who adhere to their planned purchases, loyalty schemes can offer a consistent method of reducing grocery costs over time.
  • Monitor Expiration Dates: Loyalty points often have expiry dates, with some valid for only three to six months. It is essential to use points before they lapse.
  • Go Digital: Adding loyalty cards to digital wallets like Apple Wallet or Google Pay can make it easier to remember and use them consistently.
  • Be Mindful of Behavioral Influence: Loyalty programs are designed to subtly influence shopping behavior, potentially encouraging shopping on specific days or spending more to reach point targets.
  • Consider Data Privacy: Every interaction with a loyalty scheme involves sharing personal shopping data. It is advisable to choose schemes that are transparent about data collection, usage, and protection practices. If in doubt, opting out may be the best way to safeguard personal information.
