Aldi Announces Extensive UK Store Expansion with 16 New Locations
Aldi is set to significantly expand its presence across the United Kingdom, with plans to open 16 new stores in the coming months. This latest announcement underscores the grocery retailer’s ongoing commitment to increasing its footprint nationwide. The company, which currently operates over 1,080 stores, will be launching new outlets in a variety of key areas.
Key Expansion Locations Revealed
Among the new locations slated for opening are Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common and Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands. Further expansions are planned for Wales, Kent, Essex, and North Yorkshire, bringing Aldi’s value-driven shopping experience to more communities.
Strategic Growth and Investment
These new openings are a crucial part of Aldi’s ambitious long-term strategy to reach 1,500 stores across the UK. The goal is to provide wider access to its award-winning products at competitive prices. This expansion follows the recent opening of a new Aldi store in Salford Quays and is supported by a substantial £370 million investment earmarked for new store development throughout 2026.
Commitment to Affordability and Employment
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, emphasized the company’s dedication to accessibility. “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK,” Neale stated. He added, “Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”
Enhanced Colleague Pay
The expansion efforts are complemented by a continued focus on employee compensation. Earlier this year, Aldi implemented a pay increase for its store colleagues, a move that represented a £42 million investment in pay. Store Assistant pay now begins at £13.50 per hour nationwide, with the potential to rise to £14.47 based on tenure. For colleagues working within the M25 area, the starting pay is £14.88 per hour, increasing to £15.20 with service.
