Home of AFL Premiership Player’s Mother Searched in Freeman Investigation

Kay Reid, mother to AFL premiership players Ben and Sam Reid, has confirmed her home was searched as part of an ongoing investigation into the movements of police killer Dezi Freeman. The search was conducted by officers from Taskforce Summit, which is examining Freeman’s activities after he went on the run in September of last year.

Details of the Search Emerge

Speaking on a podcast she co-hosts, Ms. Reid revealed that police arrived at her and her husband Bruce’s residence to execute a search warrant. She shared images of police officers inside her home, stating that the couple “have nothing to hide.” Ms. Reid expressed uncertainty about the specific reasons for the search, indicating that authorities were unable to provide a clear explanation.

The police arrived at approximately 7 a.m. on a Tuesday, confiscating mobile phones, copying a hard drive, and thoroughly searching the property. “Well, probably to do with the Dezi stuff, I don’t know, because we knew him, I don’t really know, they couldn’t really tell us,” Ms. Reid recounted. “We don’t really know why they were there. I’m going to have to chase up that magistrate.”

Nine police officers were present at the home for three hours. Ms. Reid confirmed that neither she nor her husband were arrested. During the search, she reportedly instructed officers to conduct research on mRNA vaccines and the Constitution.

Background of the Dezi Freeman Case

Dezi Freeman, who identified as a sovereign citizen, fatally shot two police officers and injured a third at his Porepunkah property in September last year. The officers had arrived to investigate allegations of sexual assault involving a minor and attempts to involve a child in the production of child abuse material. Authorities also held a warrant for Freeman’s devices, believed to contain child abuse material.

Following the shooting of officers Neal Thompson and Vadim de Waart-Hottart, Freeman fled into the bush. He remained at large for 216 days before being confronted by police at a property in Thologolong, near the New South Wales border. A three-hour standoff ensued, culminating in Freeman being shot by specialist officers.

Taskforce Summit’s Ongoing Investigation

Victoria Police’s Taskforce Summit is currently investigating Freeman’s movements during the seven months he was a fugitive, seeking to identify any individuals who may have assisted him in evading law enforcement.

Earlier this morning, authorities executed seven warrants across properties in Victoria and New South Wales as part of the ongoing investigation. A 64-year-old man from Lucyvale was arrested in Wodonga. He was subsequently interviewed and released without charge.

Searches were also conducted at three properties located in Buckland and Stanley, in the vicinity of Porepunkah, as well as in Lucyvale, situated further northeast in Victoria.
